My Role Models

My goal and dream in life is to become a pediatrician and over the past two weeks, I was trying to contact different people who was already living my dream of a pediatrician. I finally was successful after the first week and was able to talk to three people. I came up with four simple questions to ask for my interview with them since they all had busy lives.

1. What made you decide to become a pediatrician?
2. Did you think it was an easy or stressful task?
3. What advice would you give someone following the same dream?
4. Did you feel that becoming a pediatrician was your target out of life to happiness and success.

My first interview was with a Dr. Arroyo who was really helpful and insightful. Interviewing and talking to her she stated she knew she wanted to become a pediatrician every since she was 8 years old when she was able to go with her pregnant mom to the OBgyny and see her baby sibling getting delivered. As she got older, she preceeded to become an OBgyny but didnt like it and when got the experience of a pediatrician, she stated she liked that more. It still involved being a doctor and dealing with children. When I asked her whether she thought it was easy or hard task, she stated really hard. She took it one step at a time. She also stated that not having doctors in her family made it helpful because going into something unexpected helped cause she just went in and did the work without no outside influence of people either talking negative or positive about it. When I asked for advice, she said to study hard, get good grades and Medical School wouild seem easier and also discipline myself because it will take away from social life alot but its worth it. Finally when asked was it her target she said Yes, very much. She is very happy and if she had to do it all over again, she would!

My second interview was with my own pediatrician as a child after my first one retired and her name is Dr. Roberts. Our interview was kind of personal because we were familiar with each other. When I asked her my first question, she stated that it wasnt something she wanted to do since forever, she fell into it through Medical School and getting the experience in her residency and figured it was a very rewarding career, appealing, and kids are honest and give positive feedback than most adults who see their doctors. She stated that the process was stressful but she stated the more you do it, the easier it gets. You are always learning new experiences and it involves alot of studying even after getting your license. Her advice was to just hang in there and dont give up. Be positive and go ahead if you absolutely know that it is something I want and if im a people person then I will be fine! When asked was it her target, she stated that she was very happy in her career and she wouldnt change it.

My final interview was with a Dr. Charone who I believe I have developed a relationship with. She was very nice and helpful. When asked what made her decide to become a pediatrician, she stated that it was just something she knew she wanted to do. She was the first to state that the process was not really hard , but then it was. She stated that the work load was excessive and alot of studying. Her advice was to make sure it was something I really want to do and it's a sacrifice because there's not much of a social life throughout the process. She stated to stay focus, keep trying , and dont give up. She stated that becoming a pediatrician was her target and that she felt destined to do it. She loves doing it and would'nt change it for nothing. She also left me with her email and said that I can contact her anytime with questions or help and she also will be able to provide me some information on the MCat and the Medical School application process!

- I was really glad I was able to do this exercise, it was very rewarding and helpful!!!

  1. Glad you enjoyed the excercise. You got 3 helpful interviews. Dr. Arroyo stating she knew she wanted to become a pediatrician since 8 reminds me of how you've known you wanted to be a pediatrician since you were younger.
